Databowl email validation has various outcomes that could be classed as.

We've outlined the different possibilities below, but a valid response is essentially one that passes all of these checks.

And remember, in your email validation setup you can control whether you want to flag leads, reject or quarantine them.

The email is not a valid email address - invalid

This is whether we believe the value supplied is a valid email or not.

Syntax Errors

Misspelling domains is a common error made by senders, and consequently emails are not sent to invalid domains (e.g. “@gmail.com” can easily become “@gmial.com”).

Incorrect Format

if a lead is submitted with mismatched fields such as phone being supplied under email, or the email is missing an @ symbol, it will be flagged as invalid.

Valid Mailbox

We also attempt to check the validity of the mailbox, this check isn't 100% accurate, but can help block known invalid mailboxes.

If the mailbox doesn't exist on the domain it may be flagged as invalid, or if the mailbox is full and can't accept new mail, it may be flagged as invalid.

The value provided is a disposable email address - disposable

Our validation will reject Disposable Email Addressing unless configured in the granular email validation settings to accept the lead.

Disposable emails are temporary addresses known to be used by spammers. Sending emails to such addresses will cause your emails to land in spam folders and won’t generate enough opens and clicks.

Some mail servers are configured to accept all emails sent to the domain, regardless if the specified mailbox exists. This setup was used to avoid losing important emails sent to a specific domain. Nowadays this is becoming a problematic setup as it presents an easy way for spammers to send unsolicited emails to such domains.

The value provided is a role-based address - role_address

Identifier role-based emails, such as “help@”, are associated with a company, department, or a group of recipients instead of a real person.

The goal is to get your email delivered to real people for your content to be read and these are generic emails not to specific person, managed by several people.

These emails usually have high bounce rates and spam complaints so our validation rejects this type of email unless set to specifically set the lead status to accepted for this response type in the email validation modal

Unknown

When our email validation comes back with an unknown response, the email address may seems but the domain doesn't respond.

This could be a temporary status returned by the domain that is having problems or a permanent status if the domain is dying or dead already.

You may wish to reprocess these leads at a later time.
